Millenials are people who are born between the years of 1981 to 1986, Generation Z are those born from 1997 to 2015 and Generation Alpha are those who are born from 2016 to 2025. In short, generation alpha is yet to be born.Millenials are the people who have seen rapid change and development from their childhood to teenage to adulthood. The youngest millenials are 23-24 years old. They have seen how the world switched from CDs to youtube and how beauty changed from actually looking good to using filters to look good. They witnessed the jump and all its details, they know the good side of tech and the bad, and since millenials are now adults not “90s babies” they are the working force which make up the majority of the economy. Apart from using social media for fun, they are using tech in their daily lives and jobs. They make up majority of the work force.
Gen Z got familiar with tech a little bit earlier, they got their smart phones when they were kids and for them using tech is for fun, some of them are adults now and in a few years will be part of the working force but for now gen Z which is often mocked as “tick tock generation” is primarily used to using tech for fun and entertainment, they have no crossed the stage yet of jumping from using tech for fun to using it for one’s benefits.
Gen Alpha are the smart phone babies, they are born with knowledge of facebook and wisdom of instagram, they are seen playing games on their smart phones and toys no longer seems appealing to them as their parents try to make them stay away from screen time, they see their parents using their phones for work or for other reasons and can’t help but cry for them. Generation Alpha will think you are super old if you own an iphone 11 and you should probably change that embarrassing old phone.
But one thing is for sure, excessive exposure to technology and smart phones moves people of all generations in a cycle: First they get used to it and understand it, they entertain themselves with it and finally when they are done with entertaining themselves, they search for productive use of tech and its usage in making their daily lives easier, oddly that’s how even businesses operate, think of uber and careem, foodpanda and now due to the situation of the pandemic almost everything is done with the help of tech. What about the babies born during the pandemic? Should they be given a separate classification? These Indian parents seemed to think so.
