Anyone who says “Become a data scientist by watching this video” is scamming you. You can’t just watch a video and become a “data scientist.” Data science requires hard work and plenty of months and even years to learn. Months, if you are already a STEM degree holder like Computer science, Physics, Maths and Statistics. Years if you have a degree in lets say, english, and you want to become a data scientist.
First, learn to code.
Code is not easy. Code requires a lot of reading and practice. And coding is not done in just ONE language. Data scientists use C, C++, Java, Python, R and many others. If you are a person who has not studied computer science then you NEED TO LEARN CODING.
You will become a beginner in one month and it will take you at least a few months to become a good coder. Secondly, your maths and stats skills! Statistics is an essential part of data science, learning probabilities, hypothesis testing and various other statistical formulas will require you some time.
So learning all of this on your own is time consuming so it is better to get yourself enrolled in a one year diploma program or online courses. Doing plenty of online courses will also help you get the hang of it.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding big data and data science but just like only the best programmers get hired by google and facebook, same can be said about data scientists.
Apart from a lot of competition there are a lot of people who are jumping into this from fields like physics, finance, biotechnology etc which is making it more competitive.
Data scientists study courses like programming, coding in R and Python, Data visualization, Machine learning and big data. They work in a lot of industries but are popular in the industries of Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, public health, Economics, Finance, Statistics and mathematics.
So in order to learn data science, read books, be good at programming and watch tutorials! Good luck!
