So I read lots of job requirements for writing positions, as I am interested in them and very often I see these “academic writing” positions.
THEY ARE UTTERLY PATHETIC.
No offence if you like them.
Now requirements include MS (18 years of education) in biotechnology, economics, finance, investing, maths, physics (or whatever degrees they need) with writing styles like APA, Harvard, Chicago. (I don’t know any of them tho) and what not. If you qualify for this “position.” They give you “projects” which are basically assignments of BS level students who can’t do them. Some are struggling and some are too rich to do them. I mean why not hire an academic writer and do it? Why should they, the children of wealthy and powerful people who are enrolled in universities do their own homework?
Also THESIS writing. That is another level of shit. Seriously. You are PAYING to get your thesis written and its super common. In fact its a world wide business.
The sad thing is how stubbornly it continues.
No one can really put a stop to this academic writing business.
The academic writers need money. Those who have it pay them to get what they want. Seems like a fair business transaction. But what happens in the long run?
There becomes an endless void or a blackhole of emptiness in the educational and research world.
We have made failing a taboo. Its a laughing matter when it really shouldn’t be.
There is NOTHING wrong in failing once, twice or even 10 times! There is nothing wrong in getting a C or a D!
But the taboo of failing is there and hence people resort to other methods. The point is LEARNING. If failing is the first step of learning what you did WRONG, nothing wrong with it.
Failing teaches us how to cope with disappointments and how to change your strategy and try again and again to get what you want. Because life is a struggle. Life doesn’t give you everything handed over on a silver platter. Failing teaches valuable lessons but that is not the case here. Failing teaches us what to do when life doesn’t go the way we plan.
Private educational system is another issue. Pay our fees and study whatever. Your smartness don’t count.
Another method to expand the emptiness of the educational world.
Some educational institutes do polish students but some are just for show and tell. College degrees sometimes act like gold chains around the necks of spoiled students. An accessary added to go along with the designer handbag. How cool is it to flaunt their college degree with their designer wrist watches at fancy tea parties?
The point is, that its sad that HIGHLY educated and skilled people end up doing academic writing because they find no opportunities and that there are some students who are able to achieve their goals by money but in between this business of getting grades and degrees, the essence of learning is lost. Skills are lost. Knowledge is lost. An endless emptiness is formed and we are left with engineers and architects who contruct buildings like a house of cards which will fall to pieces once there is a bit of breeze and researchers who have 10 PhDs but can’t really discover or bring any new innovation. (But hey do you know they never got an F? They are all A+ toppers)!
